6 COMMON TYPES OF PLIERS FOR WIRE-WRAPPING
Tool #1 – Nylon Jaw Pliers
Nylon jaw pliers has a plastic cover that acts as a cushion on the metal jaws (fig. 1a).
With its smooth surface, nylon jaw pliers is suitable for straightening bent wires (fig. 1b, 1c, 1d).
Plus, it doesn’t leave scratch marks on your wires (fig. 1e, 1f, 1g).
But you must replace the nylon plastic cover as it may wear out after many uses.
Tool #2 – Round Nose Pliers
Round nose pliers has a smooth round metal jaws that is useful in making simple loops and jump rings (fig. 2a).
To create a simple loop, wrap your wire along the pliers jaw for one round (fig. 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e).
As for jump rings, wrap your wire into coils (fig. 2f, 2g, 2h, 2i).
With a wire cutter, trim off the excess wire and cut a line across your coils (fig. 2j, 2k, 2l, 2m).
Besides, you can bend your wire into a perfect curved edge using round nose pliers (fig. 2n, 2o, 2p, 2q).
Tool #3 – Flush Cutter
Flush cutter, also known as jewelry wire cutter, has a sharp metal jaws for trimming or cutting wires (fig. 3a).
It leaves a straight cut on the trimmed wire end so it doesn’t scratch your skin or clothes (fig. 3b, 3c, 3d).
